When my insanely talented friend, Gabby Lord, asked if I could photograph a book she designed, I jumped at the chance. She is one talented lady so be sure to check out her work here!
My main goal was to create a clean beautiful light that wasn't distracting but still gave the book some depth. I used a large Profoto 5" octobox at the top right of the book to create a nice shadow on the left side. Then I experimented with the distance to make sure that the octobox wasn't adding any reflection to the pages and fading the colours.
For the closer shots I lowered the light even more to add more depth and rake the light across the book even more. Then I used another softbox on the other side to fill in some of the shadows.
Nice and simple!
